Seventy-six percent of people use their Facebook feed to find interesting content, according to HubSpot. Is your brand standing out and reaching these people online? Paid ads are a great way to get noticed – especially on a platform that nearly every adult online uses. But why use Facebook ads instead of other types of paid ads? It’s a better way to spend your money and you’re gaining the right kinds of leads. Google Ads are often clicked on when a user is searching for a phone number and address – and you have to pay for those clicks. With Facebook ads, people are engaging with your content because they are interested, meaning a higher rate of conversion and more qualified leads. Ready to get started?
1. Trying using a boosted post
Carousel ads are great for telling a visual story or for showcasing products, but you are a bit more restricted when it comes to language (short and sweet is the best option here). Boosted posts allow you to tell more of a story because you aren’t constrained to word count as with carousel ads. These posts are a great place to insert testimonials or ask questions to help encourage engagement. Start by posting to see how it does organically. If your post is getting traction, put dollars towards boosting it to reach a bigger audience.
2. Targeting is key
The great thing about Facebook ads is that you can target a specific audience. This is especially important during events (geotargeting is key here) because it allows you to reach the right audience. Be sure to focus on age, interests, education, and location.
3. Use beautiful visuals
There is so much content being distributed across Facebook, it’s important to stand out with beautiful visuals. Another way to attract your audience is with video, but don’t worry – it doesn’t have to be polished or high production quality. People are now looking for more unedited, shorter content videos that seem more honest or raw instead of the professional ad. Test out a video on your Facebook page and see how it performs!
4. Keep in mind: the 20% rule!
This one is easy to forget, but is just as important. If you’re creating a visual to insert into a Facebook ad or boosted post, remember you can’t have more than 20% text on visuals. Not sure how to measure this? Use Facebook’s text overlay tool to test your creative. If you're over 20%, try shrinking the text box or using a smaller font size.
5. Report and analyze
Whenever you’re doing anything with inbound marketing, always take a look at what’s working and what’s not. A great way to measure ROI for what you are spending on your ads is through the HubSpot Ads tool. This can help drive your Facebook strategy in the future: maybe one type of post performed better with one persona and another type of post performed better with another persona. This can include anything from language and visuals to customized call-to-actions. If you want to compare two sets of ads, try doing an A/B test to see what works better.
Understanding how to use Facebook to create successful ads and boosted posts may seem like a lot, but following these five steps will help steer you in the right direction. Just remember: Facebook has 1.13 billion daily active users. Take advantage of this vast audience online by posting great content that people will love!
